After converging on the area this morning with heavy equipment, law enforcement and climbers, Pacific Lumber is proceeding with their plans to evict tree-sitters off their land. The tree-sits are in the Freshwater watershed in Humboldt county, east of Eureka.

At last contact, PL climbers were ascending up the trees of Remedy and Wren, two tree-sitters who have been in their perches for extended periods of time. Remedy is 4 days short of her one year anniversary in the tree, and a rally commemorating that event is scheduled for Sunday March 23 at noon. At 1 pm, another tree-sitter with a line of sight to Wren's tree saw a climber at Wren's platform, trying to convince her to come down.

The police and PL security herded supporters, residents and legal observers out of the area, and set up a perimeter of closed road that extends for several miles. At last report, some media was still inside where the tree-sit extractions are taking place. It is a very risky proposition, since PL has recently hired new climbers, is using inexperienced people, and even their most experienced climber has only had one day of aerial rescue training. Most tree-sitters are at least 100 feet up and have no intention of descending, as the liquidation logging practices they are protesting continue.

An activist was told this morning by a CHP officer that "If people don't come out of the trees on their own, we may have to use pepper spray."
