This is a reminder that there are 2 events coming up in the next few days organized in support of the threatened OAK GROVE in Berkeley.

>>>SATURDAY, June 23 from 2 pm to 8>>> there will be a SUMMER FESTIVAL at the Oak Grove, in the 2200 block of Piedmont Avenue, just north of Bancroft Ave. It is FREE, and there will be music, art, a solstice ritual, food to share and more. Celebrate 6 months living in the trees. The tree-sits remain!! The lawsuits challenging UC Berkeley's plans to level the oak grove will be heard in court in September. The tree-sits continue to defend the trees!

Very sadly, we have lost two people who have, each in his own way, been visionary warriors for the earth, for the forests, and for our fellow species.

Kent Stromsmoe, long an activist with BACH, and a member of our Steering Committee for years, left us on May 31.

Kent was also involved for years with Forests Forever, wrote the Heritage Tree Initiative that has been struggling to get through the Legislature for the last several years, and attended hundreds, if not thousands, of Board of Forestry meetings in Sacramento as an advocate for the forests, for the old growth, for the species. If you have come to BACH meetings in the past, you probably heard Kent's legislative and legal updates. We will miss him greatly. Hal Carlstad, consummate activist for a great many progressive causes, including anti-death pentalty, anti-war, for the forests and activists' civil rights, with the international solidarity movement and many more fronts, left this world on June 12.

Hal was very involved with the Headwaters Forest campaign, Redwood Summer, the Albion Uprising and became a good friend of Judi Bari and a dear friend of ours. A celebration of his life will be held July 15 at 2:30 at St. Joseph the Worker Church, program to be followed by a reception at 4:30 at the Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists at 1924 Cedar at Bonita in Berkeley.
