The Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum will bring 1200 corporate CEOs and 20 heads of state to OUR backyard. They will be negotiating trade deals that cover 60% of global energy systems and impact some of the most climate-vulnerable areas of the world. They need to see and hear resistance. The big APEC summit is coming up next month, Nov. 11 – 18 in San Francisco. There’s a broader No2APEC coalition that a number of Bay Area climate justice organizers have been an active part of, and they have been building out a parallel/overlapping Climate Justice contingent as part of that. It’s a huge opportunity – with 20+ heads of state expected, 1200 CEOs (including Citi, Exxon, Chevron, et al), and 30,000 international delegates/media/lobbyists. The above-described climate justice bloc has been building up a bloc with a Pledge to Resist APEC, social media promotion, weekly NVDA trainings, and now weekly meetings organizing folks. A call to action with the greater “No 2 APEC” coalition is calling for mass action on Nov. 15 at the CEO summit. They’re hoping to have a large and strong climate bloc at APEC. The next non-violence action training is Sunday November 5th, at 3pm. It’ll be at ARC-West, located at 2414 6th Street in Berkeley. RSVP HERESF Mayor London Breed and the feds announced their security plans and they are robust. The best way to counter it is with lots of people, so the call is going out far and wide to join together in San Francisco on Nov. 15 and roll with the radical climate bloc. |
